There is not an obvious career ladder for the administrative staff at UiT. In December 2016 I visited a leading law firm in the Nordic countries, Roshier with 350 employees, in their Stockholm office. Their slogan is “Your career, our passion” and their approach to career development is impressive. Here each lawyer works closely with one in the administrative staff when developing the career of both. This builds understanding and working environment. Inspired by this approach I have invited administrative personnel in the BRIDGE group to develop their personal career plans. We are now adjusting the template for early career scientists to fit administrative staff. Each staff member selects a scientist to work with, and thereby they can support each other in their continuous development. This approach also contributes to break barriers between researchers and administrative staff.
