Career management skills are capacities that enable individuals to make their way through life, learning and work and to achieve their goals. The engagement with career guidance should empower individuals, leaving them with an enhanced capacity to manage their own careers. Career management is essential also in academia and follows the above approach utilizing the career plan as the guiding document for personal learning and development. The focus of the career plan differs depending on if you are an early career researcher (PhD students or Postdoctoral fellows), experienced researcher aiming for professorship or administrative personnel. Here you can read about approaches I have applied in the SAF21 PhD program, in the BRIDGE research group, and at UiT in general.
